Navigating Changes (for Leaders)

They say that the only thing constant in the world is change. The same goes for any manager or leader in the workplace. No leader can be at their best without knowing how to navigate change. Changes happen in the workplace often that it becomes challenging for some employees to cope. People are creatures of habit and change isn’t often welcomed with open arms. A leader’s primary responsibility is to act as the catalyst for change. Helping people go through change must begin from him.
Although change is mostly sudden, it also has some predictable aspects by studying Organizational Change Management. We will study these and learn how we can go through the changes starting from its initial communication to execution until its final phases. We will explore how we can lead people through this journey so that we can make the change part of the status quo. We will attempt to understand the basics of ADKAR model in managing change. In the process, we will study how people react to change and what we can do to manage these reactions. How do we make the most out of people’s potentials and how can we ensure that they understand the change? We will attempt to cover this in the module.
We can look at changes in the day-to-day operations of leaders so that supervisors will have the in the retail setting. We will also identify the changes undergone by those they lead, the rank and file workers, and attempt to understand the concepts we will learn in these contexts.
There shall be interesting discussions and group activities for the leaders. To help them with communicating with changes, a quick work-shop and role-play activity shall be implemented too. There will be brain storming activities and reporting. Several reflective activities, small group interactions, and sharing of ideas will be incorporated into the workshop. At the end of the workshop, the participants shall be asked to create an action plan on how they shall lead their direct reports through changes.
